FEBRUARY '08

One Night, One Moment in Time
In 1926, Carter G. Woodson launched Negro History Week
as an initiative to bring national attention to the
contributions of black people throughout American history.

The 2nd week of February was chosen for Negro History Week
because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the
black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

February has much more than Frederick Douglass and
Abraham Lincoln to show  for the significance of
black American history and today we fill the entire
Month of February with celebration.

Breathing New Life into Old Soles

Students at Sagebrush Elementary team up with
Shoes4Shortees to make a difference by
Breathing New Life into Old Soles.

This initiative sponsored by the Sagebrush Elementary
School 2007 - 2008 Student Council  provides students
with a unique opportunity to give back to their community
and have fun with their teachers, families and friends,
all
at the same time!  The entire school joins in the fun and
excitement as six teams compete to be the most giving.
Two teams that donate the most shoes (paired) will
receive a special party in their honor.
