FEBRUARY '08 One Night, One Moment in Time In 1926, Carter G. Woodson launched Negro History Week as an initiative to bring national attention to the contributions of black people throughout American history. The 2nd week of February was chosen for Negro History Week because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. February has much more than Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln to show for the significance of black American history and today we fill the entire Month of February with celebration. |
